We need an open, accessible, inclusive, and transparent government to deliver for the communities they serve. The best way for communities to receive resources and know where their tax dollars are going is to participate in the process.
As Council Member, Amanda wants to hear from the community on what they need to best allocate and use her budget, not only appropriately but fairly. Communities also deserve to know how proactive their leadership is. Working in City Hall, Amanda was able to draft legislative priorities, have them voted on, and then signed into law. Amanda always commits to have legislative priorities that directly reflect what the community and our city need and deserve.
OUR VISION
Provide Internet Access – Ensure that everyone in New York City who needs access to the internet can access it through free public WiFi provided by an expanded NYC Link system.
Voter Access Reform – Bolster the strength of our democracy by supporting expanded access and participation through universal voter registration, the designation of voting days as holidays, and enfranchisement of formerly and presently incarcerated people.
Implementing Participatory Budgeting - Giving the community the decision-making ability to where our dollars go can make a huge difference. Participatory Budgeting is a crucial instrument to engage and aggregate ideas from the community and learn how to improve our district. It is revolutionary because it involves community members and lets the taxpayer decide how their money is spent. Changing the dynamics of how projects are planned, prioritized, and implemented makes a difference to community members. That’s why Amanda is committed to bringing Participatory Budgeting to our whole district so that residents can have their voices heard in the budget process. Many districts across the city have successfully instituted this program, and it’s time our community gets to participate.
