HOUSING

Everyone deserves to live a life with dignity, and that means living in a safe and affordable place in a neighborhood that provides opportunities to get ahead. We see with the City’s affordability crisis that NYC is not always able to meet that need, and, accordingly, governments at all levels must work together to help.

Amanda's grandparents came from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic to provide her parents with the best opportunities, just as her mom did for her. Amanda will fight for our families to have the chance to stay here for generations and not get forced out by development, rent increases, or lack of resources.

OUR VISION

  • Protect Housing in Our Communities – Ensure the long-term housing stability for families in our community by expanding rent-stabilization for seniors, individuals on fixed incomes, LGBTQ+ youth, and families at 35% the poverty rate

  • Expand Affordability – We will address the homelessness crisis by reaching, and maintaining, an affordable housing threshold of 25% of units throughout New York City, with at least 15% deeply affordable.

  • Fund & Defend NYCHA – We must guarantee the future of public housing by creating new, dedicated funding streams for NYCHA and banning all privatization efforts.

  • Advancing Community Land Trusts: Homes with dignity & Housing for all – We seek to address the root causes of displacement, segregation, and homelessness by removing housing and land from speculative markets to preserve the right of low-income people to live in the city. Community Land Trusts can support permanently affordable housing. They bring organizational support to groups of organized tenants. Community Land Trusts can also help secure more financial resources by pooling public and private resources and providing an additional layer of protection against rising rents and insufficient support from the city.

We will work with our Congressional Representatives to restructure the AMI to address affordable housing and displacement in New York City adequately.
