LGBTQIA SOLIDARITY

Amanda understands the importance of an accepting community with inclusive policy and leadership. Strong leadership helps create safe and protected communities for people from all walks of life and understands how to create a policy through the lens of others, on behalf of others. When working at City Council, Amanda saw the gender disparities people faced and addressed it with Local Law 44. Amanda is committed to fighting for the LGBTQ community’s rights by speaking out against hate, working with community health organizations to ensure better access to health facilities, and working in the City Council with other members and the LGBT Caucus.

OUR VISION

  • Equity and Inclusion for Transgender and Gender Nonconforming (TGNC) People

    • Our city is responsible for creating safe, inclusive, and affirming settings for TGNC people free from discrimination and violence. Amanda is committed to fighting for this on all levels - from schools to housing to jails in the City Council. We keep us safe.

    • Amanda is committed to holding harmful offenders accountable while advocating for balanced, restorative justice practices for LGBTQ+ communities in The Bronx and our City.

  • Increased Access to Affirming Mental Health Services

    • We need to reduce barriers to culturally competent and affirming services for LGBTQ people living with mental health challenges.

  • LGBTQ Visibility and Affirmation

    • Fighting for fair and accurate representation of LGBTQ people across their lifespan through consistent data collection and analysis.

    • Placing LGBT+ History within our public school system curriculum.

    • Peer-to-Peer Support: All LGBTQ young people deserve to feel safe, supported, and seen. They also deserve a community of affirming peers and access to professionals who can help them navigate daily struggles and joys. Amanda will fight to support programs that offer peer-to-peer support groups, professional services, and legal support—all of which can help LGBTQ youth live more freely, openly, and confidently.

  • Community Justice

    • Our city needs to prioritize the needs of low-income LGBTQ people by supporting opportunities that end cycles of poverty, homelessness, and other forms of social and economic marginalization.

    • Advocating for free legal services to advance the rights of LGBTQ+ New Yorkers against the challenges the City of New York has posed for violating the rights of transgender clients of HRA.

    • Decriminalize sex work and support Council Resolution 0923, calling for an end to the Walking While Trans Ban.
